Day 2 - 07-02-2015 Operation Otechestvo

Recommended Posts

Situation in Crimea has become more volatile. Despite all diplomatic attempts to put a ceasefire in place, more and more firefights are occuring on a daily basis in Crimea. Russia declines any involvement in the conflict despite a new set of sanctions implemented. UN are considering to send a peacekeeping mission Humanitarian support is pouring into Ukraine from all around the world, as high military expenditure takes a big piece from Ukrainian budget. Conditions for civilians in Crimea are getting worse day by day. Basic necessities have become a luxury now, food shortage, lack of healthcare and medical supplies make lots of people to move into quieter regions of Ukraine. Ukrainian government attempts to gain financial support from Europe and IMF are unsuccessful so far, however humanitarian missions are providing a lot of support and to those in need in Ukraine.

Ukrainian Army struggles to maintain the momentum due to lack of budget. Pro-Russian Rebels successfully defended their positions and have launched massive counterattack to re-capture the town of Sevastopol, important industrial town on the coast of Black Sea.

After prolonged fights, Pro-Russian Rebels are advancing towards the city of Dzhankoy. A small town in Eastern Ukraine is controlled by small garrison and volunteer Ukrainian defence force. Old Soviet SAM sites are up and running to prevent any aerial attacks, which could be lethal for Ukrainian defence force. Reinforcements are on the way to beef up the defences of Dzhankoy.

Unidentified UAV has been spotted in the area, orders were given to blast it down. UAV has been taken down by Ukrainian SAM, however there are no options to send a squad to recover it. Heavy rebel presence in the area puts any operation at risk. Ukrainian Special Forces with UN Observers has been sent from Kiev to recover whats left from UAV and identify its presence. Ukrainian intelligence has detected unidentified group crossing Russian border and it is likely to be Russian Spetsnaz.

It is important for Ukrainian Forces to maintain control over Yevpatoria, Simferopol, Fedosiya. It is strategic foothold and key to Sevastopol. Loss of Sevastopol will mean a loss of region and strategic port for Ukraine, and cripple the budget of Ukraine.

Sevastopol must be defended at all costs.
